THINGS TO CONSIDER BEFORE HIRING A COMPANY

- DON'T GIVE MONEY IN ADVANCE. PERIOD.
MAKE NO EXCEPTIONS.
A deposit is NOT to hold your spot. BREAKING NEWS ON 12/2/2008 Raleigh, NC. — The Better Business Bureau shows 14 complaints against the Raleigh Fence Company, LLC in the last 12 months. Many customers state that owner Ken Plain took their money, but didn't do the work. According to WRAL he has stolen close to $11,000 dollars from people. Ken Plain blamed the economy and said their money has been "all eaten in overhead." His website shortly after the story aired, stated he wanted to pay people back, but according to Plain, he will "probably go bankrupt."

"NEW MANAGEMENT." It's your call. READ BELOW.
We don't get a deposit AND we hold your spot. We ALWAYS pay for the materials out of pocket so they arrive at your house before you ever give us a single dollar.
Whether it is two days, or twenty days, any company who gets a check ahead of time, USUALLY has some type of cash flow PROBLEM. They are getting an advance from you in order to pay other debts. We come across this far too many times. A customer calls us wanting us to build or finish their project because the contractor they hired ran off with their money or they delayed starting your project for days or even weeks after your start date, and GUESS WHAT?? You can't hire someone else because you already gave them A THOUSAND DOLLARS or MORE ahead of time right? Sadly, there are people that have NO ETHICS OR MORALS AT ALL. Our fence company is NOT one of them.
- Does the fence company you chose have a proven positive trackable history?
My husband who oversees all of the installs and manages the construction end was featured on the FRONT PAGE of Raleigh's News & Observer's Work And Money section in May of 2003.

Make sure the contractor you hire has been around for at least several years. A proven track record is crucial to your own piece of mind. Nowadays any installer can create a web page or even a website. JUST BECAUSE THEY HAVE A WEBSITE DOES NOT MAKE THEM REPUTABLE! Is there "site" just a SINGLE page online with a phone number and maybe a few sentences and a couple photos?
Just because they have a website does not mean that they are reliable, reputable, respectable, or responsible. Do they provide you with ENDLESS information like we do?
When we searched the Internet for websites with information, the majority of sites we discovered are just ADVERTISEMENTS to build or sell you one, BUT very few are actually INFORMATIONAL.
Our EDUCATION website listed in the links above, provides you with virtually everything you need to know. And it was created by ME PERSONALLY, your President and CEO.
We also had such success in Raleigh that we expanded our territory to Charlotte, NC and Greensboro, NC in the last two years. We have references THROUGHOUT the state of North Carolina.
-
Does your Raleigh fencing company use sub-contractors or employees?
Companies who “sub” out their jobs can often have serious problems getting your project completed, because the sub-contractor is his own company and has MANY other companies giving him fence jobs, he can sometimes fall WAY BEHIND schedule and because you hired a business that took your money to hire another person to build your fence, it makes getting your yard enclosed take even longer sometimes.
- Does the Raleigh fence builder give you anything in writing?
HOW MUCH IS IN WRITING? Just the price? Do NOT set yourself up for problems. A written contract is the best way to protect both you the homeowner and the fence installer from problems. Installers that do not give you any paperwork are the one's that end up having the most problems. Even if a company gives you a
one year workmanship warranty you BETTER MAKE SURE YOU READ THE REST OF THE FOLLOWING BULLETS. This Raleigh fence business GIVES A LIFETIME WORKMANSHIP WARRANTY!
- Where is their Raleigh fence company running from?
Research never hurt anyone.
Is it being run from an apartment, storage area, or P.O. Box? If it is, that should concern you, it makes it much easier to close shop and disappear one day or keep your deposit.
Also a handyman or “jack of all trades”
does not specialize in wood fences may not possess the proper knowledge, tools, OR skills needed to do your job correctly. If they are not a legitimate business entity, then what recourse do you actually have against this company that does NOT actually exist?
- Nails and Rails and EVERYTHING ELSE
ASK THESE LAST QUESTIONS .
Is the installer you hired using 2 2x4 rails on four foot high jobs and 3 2x4 rails on 5 and 6 foot high ones? Have you seen a six foot high fence where only two rails were used? It looks like an accordion from the sun warping EVERY picket!
Are they using 2 nails in each rail for each picket? Some companies try to cut corners by using 5 nails and doing the old 2-1-2 routine. Are the nails hot dipped galvanized rink shank nails? If you don't have a written warranty or even only a ONE YEAR warranty, you wont have problems UNTIL MANY YEARS LATER when they rust out. Will your handyman or company that doesn't exist COME FIX IT??? Our lifetime warranty against workmanship ensures that you won't have these two problems........ EVER! AND IF THEY AREN'T USING THE RIGHT NAILS, WHAT ELSE DID THEY DO WRONG?
